To some of you this may be news, but Robyn and I, after months of deliberating, have decided to continue our adventure together in the great state of Alaska! More recently, we have narrowed our final destinations down to merely two: Anchorage, and Valdez.
Why Alaska you may ask? And I say to that… seriously? Alaska is amazing. WATCH the Valdez video at THIS WEBSITE!
After our obligatory “normal” job search, we have committed ourselves to carving out a living in Alaska by whatever means necessary. On that note, I have found a couple internship opportunities at avalanche centers, one in Valdez at the Alaska Avalanche Information Center and one in Girdwood about 40 miles from Anchorage at the Chugach National Forest Avalanche Information Center. Both would offer valuable backcountry and and avalanche safety training while boosting my resume. Neither, however, will likely provide much money so Robyn and I will be looking for whatever way possible to make it by. Robyn was the first to have success in this aspect snagging a SWEET (no pun intended) job at a Bakery in Valdez named Magpies! We also have a few job applications pending reply in Anchorage, and we will keep you posted as we learn more. Each location has its perks. Anchorage has all the convenience of a city, while Valdez has the appeal of a small, tight knit community.
At, this time we have only 3 weeks left in Pennsylvania before driving the 2,700 miles back to Idaho. In that time we hope to learn more about what Anchorage and Valdez have to offer, make our decision, pack Robyn’s car to the brim and head north!
So what do you think? We value the opinions of our friends and family more than anything.. so? Anchorage? or Valdez?
