The bright sunshine produced a sparkle so thick across the snow it made our eyes hurt. Our cheeks ached from smiling too much and our hearts, full. It was a weekend for the record books.

Our ski into Honeymoon Yurt.

We’ve reserved a yurt at Galena Lodge every year since Arco was born. We hope to continue this tradition well into old age, or until Arco and Ramey are too embarrassed to hang with their parents (hopefully this never becomes a thing).

Coffee + stories. Stories + coffee.

After two trial years, we iced our adventure cake this year (2020). The boys were happy, they slept well (unlike the two years prior), and we had fun! What a novel concept as parents, right?

We stayed two nights at the Honeymoon Yurt. From here, we skied and played in the snow, cut wood, made trips to Galena Lodge for sweet treats and hot soup, and we snuggled by the wood stove. We brought a few books, but the boys preferred pretend play with kitchen utensils, plates and bowls.

Who needs toys when you have yurt kitchen supplies?
Poppa’s slippers are also a good alternative to toys.

Our Thanksgiving feast included an elk roast, a giant salad decorated with dried fruit, seeds and nuts, and an assortment of veggies. It was my first attempt at homemade dinner rolls and they were tasty, plus a savory sweet potato dish that complemented the meal nicely. Homemade chocolate chip cookies, frosty adult beverages and instrumental Christmas tunes sung the moon to sleep.

From our yurt, nestled in the Boulder Mountains, we soaked it all up – mother nature, the snow and sunshine, the quietness and simple beauty of yurt life, and slower living. It filled our cups and we’re already looking forward to this year’s stay in our favorite Galena Yurt.

**Happy belated New Year! We are slowly catching up with posts and stories. It turns out, with two young children, full-time work and life, logging all of our adventures is a challenge. We hope to write more this year, and as always, thank you for tuning in.
